For Preschool, Pre-K, and Kindergarten, German fluency is not required. Starting in grade 1, a good understanding of German is needed, and by Middle and High School, fluency and literacy are required. English fluency is not required at any grade level.
What is the difference between Preschool, Pre-K, and Kindergarten at GISB?
In American English, 'Preschool' is ages 2.9-5 (German 'Kindergarten'), 'Pre-K' is for children turning 5 between Sept 1-Dec 31 (German 'Vorschulkindergarten'), and 'Kindergarten' is ages 5-6 (German 'Vorschule').
Are there any admission tests required?
Applicants whose primary language is not German must be tested by a German as a Second Language teacher. Previous report cards are also requested. Students applying to the Fast Track program will be tested in English and Mathematics.
What are the requirements for Preschool and Kindergarten admission?
For Preschool, children must be three years old by December 31 and reliably toilet-trained. For Kindergarten, children must be five years old by September 1.
